I am directed by the Secretary of State to inform you that, subject to your being passed by the medical adviser of this Department as physically fit for service, he proposes to select you for appointment as a nursing sister in the Government Medical Department, Hongkong, with salary at the rate of £130 a year, rising after 3 years' service to £160 a year.
Uniform, lodging, and rations will be provided for the purposes of Colonial service. Your salary will be converted into dollars at the current rate of exchange, which will be fixed monthly by the Governor and will be based on the average exchange value of the dollar during the preceding month.
You will be required to present herself for medical examination on the ... of March.

It is to be understood that your engagement is for not more than three years from the date of your arrival in the Colony; and that, if it is established to the satisfaction of the Governor that you are not qualified for efficient service there, the Governor, subject to the confirmation of the Secretary of State, shall have full power to cancel your appointment at any time within the said three years without giving you any further compensation than a passage back to England, which will be granted only if the Governor is satisfied that you have, by your good conduct, deserved it.
If not expressly terminated previously, the appointment will cease at the end of the said three years, and you will then be provided with a free passage back to England.
It is also to be understood that your services will be available for employment in any hospital in the Colony, and that you will be required to perform any duties upon which the Governor, in the interest of the public service, may think it desirable to employ you.
It will be necessary for you to express your acceptance of the conditions stated in the 2nd and 3rd paragraphs of this letter before your appointment is confirmed.
